Why to Germany

Why is Germany such a great place for engineering jobs?

Germany is known for its engineering skills and the quality of its machines, plants, electrotechnical products and cars. In Germany, around 35,000 engineering students graduate each year. But that is still less than the number of engineers retiring each year, according to the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE). This means that employers are actively looking for qualified engineers to fill positions in exciting fields such as medical technology, automation or renewable energies. Therefore, there are great opportunities for engineers in Germany.

Engineers and Blue Card

The EU Blue Card is a special residence title for foreign academics seeking qualified employment in Germany. Foreign engineers coming to Germany are welcomed as immigrants and fill many engineering job openings that open their doors in Germany. Here are some details engineers should know, as well as specific employment information to consider when working in Germany

Job Status for Engineers in Germany

Germany is known for its engineering skills and the quality of machinery, equipment, electrical products, and automobiles. The use of digital technologies is leading to a variety of new perspectives and business models for companies and their employees, especially for engineers. Germany has the most engineers and the second-highest proportion of engineers among all employees in the European Union. But demographic developments are a cause for concern. 21% of engineers are currently over 55 years old and many companies are facing major replacement problems. This means that employers are actively looking for qualified engineers to fill positions in exciting fields such as medical technology, automation or renewable energy

What are the requirements to obtain an EU Blue Card?

Engineers from non-EU countries can now benefit from the new EU Blue Card, which gives highly qualified foreign immigrants the right to live and work in Germany. Due to the shortage of engineers, low entry requirements currently apply to this group. This means that an engineer only needs two things to get a blue card:

  • They have a German degree, a recognized foreign university degree or a foreign university degree that is comparable to a German one. We will provide you with comprehensive information on the equivalence and recognition of foreign university degrees.
  • You already have a concrete job offer from a company in Germany. The job must be suitable for someone with your qualifications (university degree). The position in Germany must be remunerated with an annual gross income of at least €56,400 (as of 2022). For employees in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, engineering and human medicine, a gross annual salary of at least €43,992 (as of 2022) is required. In this case, the Federal Employment Agency must approve your application for employment
